DesignMD Extractor helps users extract public visual design information from the current webpage and turn it into an AI-readable DESIGN.md file. The extension works only after the user actively starts an analysis.

What the extension reads

When the user clicks "Analyze current page", the extension reads public style information from the active tab, including:

  • Computed styles such as colors, typography, spacing, border radius, shadows, borders, and backgrounds.
  • CSS variables related to color, font, spacing, radius, shadow, border, background, surface, and text.
  • Visible component structure, such as buttons, cards, navigation, hero sections, badges, and forms.
  • A compressed screenshot of the visible area, captured locally only after the user starts analysis. It is used as visual context for generation.

What the extension does not read

  • Passwords.
  • Cookies.
  • Browsing history.
  • Local storage from webpages.
  • Form input values.
  • Chat contents.
  • Payment information.
  • Full webpage source code.

When data is sent to a server

Analysis preview is created locally in the extension. In cloud generation mode, data is sent only when the user clicks "Generate DESIGN.md". At that point, the extension sends the extracted design summary and the compressed screenshot to https://api.vibecolor.ai/design-md/generate so the backend can generate the DESIGN.md file.

The backend may send the design summary and screenshot to its AI model provider for generation. This data is used only to produce the requested DESIGN.md output. We do not use webpage content for advertising or tracking, and we do not sell user data.

BYOK mode

BYOK means "Bring Your Own Key". If the user enables BYOK, the API key is stored locally in browser extension storage. Model requests are sent directly from the extension to the API endpoint entered by the user. The BYOK API key and BYOK model requests do not pass through our server.

Device ID, quota, and activation codes

The extension generates a local device ID to manage free quota and activation code redemption. The backend stores quota and activation status for the device ID. The first version does not require account registration.

Retention

DesignMD Extractor does not provide cloud history storage for analyzed webpages or generated DESIGN.md files. We do not intentionally store webpage content or screenshots as a product feature. Standard server logs may record technical metadata such as request time, status, IP address, and user agent for security and reliability.
